  1. Why did you resign, number 6?
  2. As director of communications, I was asked to prepare a memo reviewing our company's training programs and materials. In the body of the memo one of the sentences mentioned the "pedagogical approach" used by one of the training manuals. The day after I routed the memo to the executive committee, I was called into the HR Director's office, and was told that the executive VP wanted me out of the building by lunch. When I asked why, I was told that she wouldn't stand for "perverts" (pedophiles?) working in her company. Finally he showed me her copy of the memo, with her demand that I be fired, with the word "pedagogical" circled in red. The HR Manager was fairly reasonable, and once he looked the word up in his dictionary and made a copy of the definition to send to my boss, he told me not to worry. He would take care of it. Two days later a memo to the entire staff came out, directing us that no words which could not be found in the local Sunday newspaper could be used in company memos. A month later, I resigned. In accordance with company policy, I created my resignation letter by pasting words together from the Sunday paper.
  3. just make it clear that you have enjoyed your time with the 'company' but now feel there are other options for you to explore, thank them for your time with them and the chance to show what you could do and be gracious with regards your immediate superior if you had one and the fact they made you feel welcome as did any other employees you enjoyed working with.good luck with your future.
  4. don't resign until you know you are allowed to migrate to Canada.....the laws are tough when wanting to retire in Canada....you have to realize that you will not be working in Canada but taking advantage of our health system?...the people who decide will take this into consideration...and the monies that it would cost for your health care......this may take a long time to decide.....don't get me wrong, I know when you are retired in Canada you will have to pay taxes...but is it right to retire in a country that has great health care for their citizens, and you leaving the US because you have to pay for health care?
  5. Is there a contest going on such that only one person, the one with the best resignation letter wins? Very strange system, I've never heard of anything like this. What happens to everybody else? Do they just resign with nothing? In any case, what are the judges looking for to pick the best? Why do you deserve our help over all the other people in the contest? Perhaps there is somebody more deserving. Tax free program! Again very strange, are you sure it is not just deferred taxes? I guess it would be possible for a company to devise as system such they would agree to give you addition income to cover your taxes for you so it appears to be tax free to you. I've seen this done on company required cross country moves because the IRS does allow not many of expenses incurred to be excluded from your income.
